Street style you need to see at Copenhagen Fashion Week AW20
Copenhagen Fashion Week is the epitome of Scandi cool. From 27 to 31 January, the streets of Denmark′s capital will be lined with influencers, stylists and editors attending the autumn/winter 2020 shows.
The focus of AW20 is recognising fashion′s impact on the planet, after CFW CEO Cecilie Thorsmark unveiled the event′s Sustainability Action Plan on 28 January. Any brands taking part in CFW will now have to meet a minimum set of sustainability requirements, as Thorsmark explained: "Climate change is here and it is threatening our planet and our lives, and the fashion industry is one of the biggest offenders."
Among the brands championing eco-conscious policies are Ganni, where creative director Ditte Reffstrup has commissioned her favourite female creatives to create upcycled products as part of its KIOSK pop-up. Meanwhile, more than 50 per cent of Baum und Pferdgarten′s collection has been sourced from responsible fibres, including organic cotton and recycled polyester.
As well as established brands such as Stine Goya, By Malene Birger and Cecilie Bahnsen, CFW welcomes newcomers: see Oslo-based Michael Olestad; Selam Fessahaye (dubbed a Sveriges modemirakel, or Sweden′s fashion miracle′); and new-gen brand Carcel, known for building its production sites inside women′s prisons, helping them gain new skills and earn fair wages.
